Current Projects

A major part of the work of the Center over the past dozen years has been with domestic violence offenders. Men who batter have found supportive and challenging intervention through the Abuse Prevention Program. The APP is currently dormant. We do not currently have a class meeting. We have only intermittently conducted class since September 2007.

While that part of the program has been in decline, we have been doing much more work with the faith community. In the Fall of 2006 and continuing into the Spring of 2007, Mark offered a series of presentations at Eden Seminary on Conflict Resolution in Faith Communities. He has served as a resource for preaching and consultation with a half dozen local churches in that time and presented at the LIFE series at Eden in April 2008. See the Calendar for details of specific presentations.

In January of 2008, Mark taught a J-term class at Eden on Conflict Resolution in the Church. This is leading to guest lecturing at other institutions of higher learning and to a burst of energy in writing Mark's first book. Tentatively titled Just Conflict: Harnessing the Transformative Power of Conflict to Create Just Relationships, the book is in draft form available at www.stl-fvn.org/Writings/JustConflicta.pdf.

Following a presentation to family law attorneys in the fall of 2007, Mark has been doing more work with GAL's and attorneys who are working in the field of family law. These cases tend to be either;

  • working with parents who have been abusive toward their children who are working toward a safe reunification with those children, or
  • with couples with children who are divorcing where there has been a high level of conflict or where one parent has dominated decision-making in a way that compromises their ability to make decisions together on behalf of their children.

We will be adding a section to this site about these areas of work to aid attorneys in finding the appropriate resources for their clients. In the meantime, here is a link to an article about the types of intervention Mark does.
